This training is hosted by Amputation System of Care and Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence. Clinicians are encouraged to use an individualized and patient-centered care approach involving “patient capabilities, needs, goals, prior treatment experience, and preferences.” When it comes to pain management in our amputee population, integrative medicine approaches are becoming more and more popular with patients and clinicians. Integrative medicine may cohesively combine conventional and alternative medicine treatments to achieve safe and effective pain management in this community. Specifically, the role of acupuncture should be considered as an adjunctive approach to non-narcotic pain management throughout the rehabilitative process. Facets of integrative medicine modalities are not only holistic but empower patient and physician relationships toward patient centered care.
