Course Information


This course describes advances in telehealth that can be integrated into your practice, whether it is in education, clinical practice, or research. Course presenters with interest and expertise in telehealth present cutting-edge applications of technology focusing on enhancing patient care. Following an introduction to telehealth, telemedicine, and telerehabilitation definitions, you will be exposed to evidence-based information on telerehabilitation and physical therapy. The information you will glean from this course is both exciting and applicable— the latest in telerehabilitation technology for physical therapist practice and current regulatory concerns with telehealth implementation in your local jurisdiction.

Presenter Bio (s)


Alan Chong W. Lee, PT, DPT, PhD, CWS, GCS, associate professor at Mount St Mary's College in Los Angeles, maintains clinical practice at Scripps Mercy Hospital. Lee also is the secretary of the Telerehabilitation SIG for the American Telemedicine Association and a member of the Nominating Committee for the Acute Care Section of APTA. Lee has published on the topic of telehealth and has collaborated with the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center at the University of Pittsburgh on a NIDDR research grant on telerehabilitation. Lee was awarded the APTA Minority Faculty Development Scholarship Award in 2008 and Adopt-A-Doc Award in 2011.


Katie Stout, PT, DPT, CBIS, is with the Army’s Northern Region Medical Command as the Tele-TBI chief, providing telehealth services to remote and troop-intensive sites for service members who have sustained a brain injury. Stout is also working with Holy Cross Hospital’s telemedicine and rehabilitation departments to incorporate Tele-PT services into the Senior Wellness Community Outreach programs. She serves as adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and lectures on acute care rehabilitation, brain injury rehabilitation, wellness, and telerehabilitation. She volunteers as the secretary to the Board of Directors for the Thomas Jerome House, and she recently completed her MBA at the University of Scranton.

On successful completion of the examination, 0.2 CEUs (2.0 contact hours/CCUs) and a certificate of completion will be awarded. The American Physical Therapy Association has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 1760 Old Meadow Road, Suite 500, McLean, VA 22102. Provider (#380).

Many state agencies recognize APTA as a recognized or approved provider for continuing education. The following state agencies have granted prior approval for this continuing education offering:
