Course Information

In February, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) published the 2012 CARF Medical Rehabilitation Standards Manual. This manual will be used on all surveys after July 1 and through June 30, 2013. Of particular interest to physical therapists (PTs) are the standards for independent evaluation services. In 2013, there will be new standards in the areas of interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation and brain injury. PTs were actively engaged in their development. Do you know how they will affect PTs and other rehabilitation health care providers in inpatient rehabilitation facilities (providers, administrators, program managers, and quality directors), rehabilitation agencies, outpatient settings, industrial/occupational rehabilitation facilities, and home, community, and residential settings?

Get up to speed on the most relevant components of the new CARF standards with Christine MacDonell, CARF’s managing director of Medical Rehabilitation and International Aging Services/Medical Rehabilitation. In addition to walking you through the new standards, she will discuss CARF’s progress in the CMS deeming process for rehabilitation agencies, how more than 2,700 agencies currently awaiting state surveys might benefit from CARF accreditation, the steps involved in becoming a CARF surveyor, and more.
