Medicare and other private payers are ramping up efforts to prevent improper payments through prepayment audits, postpayment audits, and other initiatives. While facing an audit is a daunting prospect, understanding audit processes and implementing risk reduction strategies today will help practices respond in the event of an audit. Join us as a physical therapist and an attorney share their audit experiences and provide suggestions for responding to audits and reducing your risk.

Presenter Bio (s)

J. Todd Mason PT, DPT, MS, is cofounder and administrator of Total Fitness Connection (TFC Physical Therapy). Todd graduated from the University of Kentucky PT program in 1998. He worked in an outpatient sports medicine setting directing a clinic until he opened TFC in 2001. His business model is a combination of fitness and physical therapy, currently operating in 4 locations in Kentucky. Todd is passionate about empowering everyone, including patients, PTs, and practice owners to overcome their obstacles.

Donna K. Thiel, is a partner in King & Spalding LLP's healthcare practice. Ms. Thiel concentrates her practice on regulatory issues affecting healthcare providers, practitioners and suppliers in their operations, transactions and compliance efforts, with particular focus on Medicare and Medicaid payment systems. Ms. Thiel also has comprehensive healthcare administrative litigation experience, including challenging claims denials and Zone Program Integrity Contracts (ZPIC), Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs) and Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) audits. Ms. Thiel has been recognized as an outstanding lawyer by Chambers USA, SuperLawyers and Washingtonian Magazine.

CEU Information

On successful completion of the examination, 0.2 CEUs (2.0 contact hours/CCUs) and a certificate of completion will be awarded. The American Physical Therapy Association has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 1760 Old Meadow Road, Suite 500, McLean, VA 22102. Course Completion Requirements

In order to successfully complete this course, you must do the following:
  • Login to the APTA Learning Center and launch the course from "My Courses" tab.

  • Launch the webinar from the "Handout & Recording" page in the course on the APTA Learning Center to view the recording.

  • Once you have listened to the presentation and completed all activities, continue to the Posttest page within the course to complete the learning activity. You must complete the online posttest with at least 70% accuracy to pass the course.

  • In order to Claim Credit, return to the "My Courses" page in the APTA Learning Center to complete the postcourse evaluation.

  • Once the postcourse evaluation is submitted, you will be able to print your CEU certificate.
