This course will help you to become familiar with some of the guidelines, tools, and resources for creating effective and appropriate clinical documentation.


After completing the course, you will be able to:

  • Analyze current trends and issues regarding physical therapy clinical documentation.
  • Describe typical challenges faced by physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in clinical documentation.
  • Identify strategies to facilitate efficient and effective documentation skills.
  • Apply the components of appropriate clinical documentation for clinical practice, compliance, risk management, regulatory, and reimbursement requirements.
  • Describe best practices for documenting patient/client care in physical therapy, including evidence-based practice and outcomes tools.
  • Access tools and resources needed to document effectively, and satisfy regulatory, payer, and clinic requirements
