Course Description
Intraprofessional education—where physical therapist (PT) and physical therapist assistant (PTA) students learn with, from, and about each other—has gained recognition as a critical component of preparing future practitioners. In addition to promoting patient safety and improved care outcomes, intraprofessional education supports Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) expectations related to professional communication, collaboration, and role delineation. This 1-hour webinar will feature a panel of PTA program directors and PT faculty who are champions of intraprofessional education and collaborative practice. They will share three practical models of intraprofessional learning: a hybrid format, an asynchronous activity, and a simulation-based activity. Participants will gain insights into challenges, design considerations, and strategies for developing impactful intraprofessional opportunities that prepare students for effective collaborative practice in the clinic while aligning with accreditation criteria.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate between interprofessional and intraprofessional activities in healthcare education.
- Identify common challenges associated with developing intraprofessional activities for PT and PTA students.
- Describe key considerations when designing intraprofessional activities that effectively engage PT and PTA learners.
- Explain how student engagement in intraprofessional practice activities contributes to readiness for clinical practice.
- Examine examples of hybrid, asynchronous, and simulation-based intraprofessional activities as models for implementation.
