Dr. Kelby Kaplan will be presenting “Team-Based Learning: Transitioning from Guru to Guide.” Team-Based Learning (TBL) is a pedagogical approach that facilitates active learning through the use of collaborative, small group activities. Students engage in meaningful, problem-solving tasks that apply knowledge gained through pre-class individual learning. TBL has been implemented in a multitude of healthcare disciplines to facilitate the complex-problem-solving, communication, and collaboration required for high-quality effective clinical practice. This presentation will discuss the characteristics and learning preferences of current Doctor of Physical Therapy students, components of TBL, evidence on the impact of TBL in healthcare education, and best practices for integrating this active learning approach into DPT instruction
