Healthcare organizations and clinicians are paying increased attention to environmental issues.  How important is it for PTs and PTAs to consider health implications of the environment and what they do? In this course, we’ll consider how climate change and other environmental concerns impact ethical decision making regarding clinical care, service delivery, and resource allocation.  APTA Code of Ethics and Standards of Ethical Conduct and other guidance from within and outside of APTA will be applied to physical therapy situations.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Describe connections between climate change and beneficence, nonmaleficence, justice, advocacy, and duty within healthcare.
  • Defend environmental stewardship as a component of ethical physical therapy practice.
  • Apply an environmental lens when considering ethical situations within case scenarios.
