  • Classify lab values that are pertinent to physical therapy professionals and their implications for various systems.
  • Utilize the APTA Acute Care Lab Values Resource Guide to identify relative and absolute parameters for therapeutic participation.

Jamie J. Dyson, PT, DPT

University of Central Florida

Jamie Dyson, PT, DPT has been practicing acute care physical therapy for over 25 years. His primary area of practice has been in the intensive care units specializing in trauma and burn care. He is a certified instructor for Advanced Burn Life Support as well as both an APTA Basic and Advanced Credentialed Clinical Instructor. He practices at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford Florida. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor with the University of Central Florida DPT Program. Dr. Dyson was awarded the Signe Brunnstrom Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching in 2013 and the FPTA Fred Rutan Award for Outstanding Service in 2017. He is a member of the Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy Practice Committee. He is actively involved with the Florida Physical Therapy Association serving as Chapter President.

Jill Marie Cannoy, PT, DPT

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta

Jill Cannoy, PT, DPT, PCS works as a Physical Therapist and Advanced Certified Clinical Instructor at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta within the Acute Rehabilitation and Orthotics and Prosthetics Departments. She is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy from the ABPTS with 8 years of clinical experience. She graduated with a doctorate in physical therapy from Emory University in 2012 and completed an APTA accredited Pediatric Physical Therapy Residency Program in 2014. Jill serves as a faculty mentor in the Pediatric Physical Therapy Residency program at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in the acute and O&P settings. She serves on her hospital’s Early/Intubated Mobility Guiding Team and developed an advanced competency for staff on the Role of Rehabilitation in Pediatric Oncology. Jill is an active member of the APTA and within the Pediatric and Oncologic sections, with special interest on the role of rehabilitation in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Pediatric Oncology, and Pediatric Limb Differences and Deficiencies. Jill serves as Co- Chair of the ACRM Limb Restorations Rehabilitation Networking Group Implementation Research Task Force. Jill has presented on her areas of interest at the local and national level and has publications with the Journal of Pediatric Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Oncology.

Andrea Lynn Hergenroeder, PT, PhD

University of Pittsburgh

Andrea Hergenroeder, PT, PhD is an associate professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh. She is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy with 25 years of experience as a physical therapy clinician, manager, and educator. Previously, Hergenroeder worked for UPMC Centers for Rehab Services, where she was Director of Physical Therapy at UPMC Presbyterian hospital. She has a passion for teaching and for the past 15 years has taught courses in cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy, health and wellness, and the management of medically complex patients. Hergenroeder's research focuses on physical activity and sedentary behavior interventions to improve physical function and reduce risk of non-communicable diseases. Hergenroeder is the recipient of the American Physical Therapy Association Academy of Acute Care Educator Award and the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehab Sciences Dean's Distinguished Teaching Award.

Kimberly Moore Levenhagen, PT, DPT

Saint Louis University

Kim Levenhagen PT, DPT, WCC, CLT, FNAP is an associate professor at Saint Louis University. She teaches the acute care curriculum, communication courses, and Interprofessional Team Seminar. Dr. Levenhagen is an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor and Credentialed Advanced Clinical Instructor. She is a member of the Academies of Acute Care and Clinical Electrophysiology and Wound Management, and Oncologic Physical Therapy. She is a member of the Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy Practice Committee and the Chair of the Nominating Committee. She has Wound Care Certification and is a Certified Lymphedema Therapist as well as extensive clinical experience in acute care. She has published in the areas of infection control, HIV, lymphedema, wound care and education. She serves on the clinical practice guideline for upper quadrant lymphedema. Dr. Levenhagen received Excellence in Classroom Teaching for the Doisy College of Health Sciences in 2013, the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award in 2014, the Avis Meyer Excellence in Advising award in 2015, the James Korn Award for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in 2018 and the Phil Lyons Outstanding Staff Award in 2018.

Traci Lynn Norris, PT, DPT

Barnes-Jewish Hospital

Traci Norris, PT, DPT is a physical therapist and Rehabilitation Clinical Specialist for evidence-based practice and clinical practice change at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. She serves as the co-director for the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Geriatric Physical Therapy Candidate Residency Program and is responsible for leading groups and initiatives around evidence-based practice and best practice initiatives at her facility. She is a board-certified geriatric clinical specialist with over 20 years clinical experience. Dr. Norris is an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor and Credentialed Advanced Clinical Instructor. She has presented locally and nationally in areas including acute care physical therapy, evidence-based practice, frailty, geriatrics, ICU, trauma, and early mobilization. She is a recipient of the Academy of Acute Care Mary Sinnott Award for Clinical Excellence in Acute Care, the Washington University Program in Physical Therapy-Patty K Sheets Award for Excellence in Physical Therapy Education, the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Team Award for Quality Improvement (TAQI)-for ICU Mobility Team, Barnes-Jewish Hospital David A Gee Service Award and the Barnes- Jewish Hospital Excellence in Professional Rehabilitation Award. She serves as President of APTA Acute Care.

James Tompkins, PT, DPT

Bayhealth Medical Center

James Tompkins PT, DPT is a physical therapist and Senior Operations Director at Bayhealth in Dover, Delaware. With over 30 years of practice in the field of rehabilitation, Dr. Tompkins has developed expertise in numerous clinical, academic, and administrative areas. His clinical interests include rehabilitation with medically complex patient populations, specializing in neuro-rehabilitation, orthopedics, cardiopulmonary, critical care, geriatrics, oncology and transplant. He frequently collaborates with local, state and national physical therapy associations regarding the translation of evidence-based care models into practice. Dr. Tompkins has extensive knowledge of the healthcare industry pertaining to regulatory, compliance, and reimbursement issues. In addition, he has a passion for education, previously serving as the Associate Dean for the Mayo Clinic School of Health Science in Arizona. He has received numerous awards for his scholarly achievements. He served as the Secretary of the APTA Acute Care.
