The American Physical Therapy Association is now a proud provider of American Red Cross courses.

In its inaugural year, APTA is offering an American Red Cross Basic Life Support hybrid CPR course containing two parts: an asynchronous online learning session and an in-person skills review session. Registration opens April 15 and closes May 28, and is limited to 36 participants.

This course provides health care providers with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adult, child, and infant patients. It is taught in a blended learning format, and the online portion (accessed via mobile desktop or tablet) must be completed prior to attending the instructor-led skills session.  Upon successful completion of the course, learners will receive a two-year Basic Life Support digital certificate with anytime, anywhere access to the certificate and training history through the Red Cross Learning Center. Learners are recommended to check with their state licensing boards to determine license requirements and continuing education unit limits or allowances for CPR courses. Contact information for your state can be found here: Licensing Authorities Contact Information | FSBPT.

This course is open to health care providers only (not support or administrative staff), who are members or nonmembers of APTA. The virtual component of the course can be completed anytime following registration, while the required in-person portion of the course will take place Tuesday, June 4, at the APTA Centennial Center in Alexandria, Virginia. Learners have the option to enroll in the 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. cohort or the 2 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. cohort for the in-person session.

Learners who register for this course should plan to attend the in-person CPR Skills Lab at APTA Centennial Center on Tuesday, June 4 from 2 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Why choose APTA as your authorized provider of American Red Cross BLS CPR courses?

Beyond learning the knowledge and skills necessary for your American Red Cross BLS CPR certification, you will also explore real-world scenarios of cardiac emergencies in the physical therapy profession, learning from certified American Red Cross instructors with years of experience teaching all levels of life-saving courses.

How would you respond if a patient was walking on a treadmill and suddenly had a cardiac arrest? Instructors will share their recorded experience of this very event and the lessons learned as a result. Would your front-desk staff know what to do in an emergency? What if you were alone? Discussions of these questions and more await those who enroll in this course.
