APTA Evaluation and Treatment of the Injured Runner
Strengthen your ability to evaluate running-related injuries, develop targeted rehabilitation strategies, and safely progress runners back to sport.
Explore evidence-based approaches to the assessment and management of common running-related injuries, including tendinopathies and bone stress injuries. Learn how factors such as training load, nutrition, recovery, sleep, and psychosocial considerations influence rehabilitation, performance, and return-to-sport decision-making.
What You'll Learn
By completing this course, you'll be able to:
- Apply a runner-centered approach to evaluation and clinical decision-making by considering training history, recovery, nutrition, lifestyle factors, and patient goals.
- Differentiate common running-related injuries, including tendinopathies, bone stress injuries, and apophyseal injuries, using subjective screening, objective examination, functional testing, and running gait analysis.
- Identify key factors that influence injury risk and recovery, including RED-S, the athlete triad, iron deficiency, sleep, psychological stress, and training load management.
- Develop evidence-based rehabilitation strategies, exercise prescriptions, and progression criteria for runners with common lower-extremity injuries.
- Design individualized return-to-run and return-to-sport programs based on injury severity, tissue healing, training variables, and athlete-specific goals.
