CAPTE PTA Virtual Developing Program Workshop (January 2025)

This workshop involves asynchronous module completion and one 3-hour synchronous virtual session and is designed to assist physical therapist assistant education program administrators, program directors, faculty, and reviewers to obtain information about the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education’s (CAPTE’s) expectations for compliance with the 2024 Standards and Required Elements for Physical Therapist Assistant Education Programs, prepare an Application for Candidacy, and undergo a successful programmatic review. The workshop includes an overview of the accreditation process, an introduction to CAPTE, how to use the CAPTE portal, preparing for the on-site visit, CAPTE’s expectations relevant to the Standards & Required Elements, and the required evidence of compliance. This workshop focuses on information essential for institutions developing a physical therapist education program. Information is provided on:

  1. Developing a relationship with CAPTE/staff.
  2. Demonstrating institution’s commitment to development of a quality program.
  3. Showing good planning with readiness for matriculation as early as 3 weeks after CAPTE decision to grant Candidacy.
  4. Setting high expectations upfront, protecting students, and increasing the chances for a positive accreditation decision.
  5. The purposes and processes of accreditation.
  6. How to develop a Self-Study Report that accurately reflects all program activities.
  7. How to use the CAPTE portal to submit application for candidacy materials and submission of the institutional response after the on-site visit.

Learning Objectives:

After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the purposes of specialized programmatic accreditation.
  2. Identify the individuals involved in the self-study process.
  3. Identify pre-accreditation and accreditation activities.
  4. Describe the self-study process.
  5. Navigate the CAPTE portal.

Course Instructions

  1. Click on the Contents tab to watch the course recording.
  2. Click the Take Quiz button to complete the assessment. Learners will have 3 attempts to pass and must answer at least 70% of questions correctly.
  3. Click Fill Out Survey under the Evaluation listing to provide valuable course feedback. Scroll down on all questions as there may be answer options that expand past the size of the window.
  4. Click the View/Print Your Certificate button under the Certificate listing. You can view/print your certificate at any time by visiting the APTA Learning Center and clicking the CEU Certificate/Transcript link on the left-hand side of the page.
