This module may be particularly helpful for clinical instructors who took the original Beginner or Level 1 course before spring 2023, when content on this topic was formally integrated into the course (fourth edition).

- Generate practical strategies for student success in clinical education experiences.
Ralph R. Utzman
PT, MPH, PhD
Ralph R. Utzman, PT, MPH, PhD has been a physical therapist since 1989 and has been a clinical educator since 1990. He is currently Professor and Director of Clinical Education at West Virginia University. He has been a credentialed trainer for the Level 1 Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program since 1998 and for the Advanced/Level 2 program since 2010. He has served two terms on APTA’s Credentialed Clinical Instructor Advisory Workgroup and currently served on two of its subcommittees. In the WVU Physical Therapy program, he teaches courses in professional development, health policy and payment, and clinical administration in management. Clinically, he has practiced in numerous settings, including acute care, skilled nursing, home health, pediatrics, and outpatient. He currently sees patients in the WVU PT Faculty Practice with balance and vestibular impairments.
Kristine (Krissy) Grubler
PT, DPT
Krissy Grubler, PT, DPT has been a licensed physical therapist since 1993 and a clinical educator since 1999. She is a former Director of Clinical Education and current Associate Professor at Wheeling University. She has been a credentialed trainer for the Level 1 Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program (CCIP) since 2013 and a credentialed trainer for the Level 2 CCIP since 2022. She serves on the APTA’s Credentialed Clinical Instructor Advisory Workgroup (CCIW), the APTA CCIP Level 1 and Level 2 Curriculum Revisions Workgroups, and the APTA CCIP Booster Module Subcommittee. She is a member of the Academy of Education, the Academy of Leadership and Innovation, and the Academy of Orthopaedics. In the Wheeling University Doctor of Physical Therapy program, she teaches hands-on skills courses focusing on musculoskeletal and neuromuscular content in the Physical Therapy Science, I, II, and III courses in the program. She previously taught courses on professional development and clinical administration and management. Clinically, she practiced in skilled/long-term care, home health, and most of her clinical practice time in outpatient orthopedics and sports.
