This course will equip PTs and PTAs with the knowledge and practical frameworks needed to evaluate and integrate emerging technologies safely and effectively. Participants will explore current tech trends influencing physical therapist practice, gain clarity on the regulatory and legal foundations guiding clinical technology use, and learn how to differentiate among key categories of hardware and software tools used in outpatient and rehabilitation settings.
Foundational concepts of artificial intelligence (AI) will be introduced with a focus on their impact on clinical reasoning, along with a balanced discussion of the opportunities and limitations of AI-enabled tools in PT workflows. The course also addresses data privacy, risk management, and compliance to support responsible implementation. By the end, clinicians will be more prepared to make informed decisions about digital health solutions that enhance care quality, patient experience, and practice efficiency.

You'll learn:
- Identify current and emerging technology trends in the musculoskeletal (MSK) space and describe how they influence assessment, treatment, and patient experience.
- Explain the regulatory and legal foundations for clinical technology, including key considerations for safe and compliant implementation in physical therapy settings.
- Differentiate between major categories of clinic-based hardware and software tools and evaluate their appropriate use cases within MSK practice.
- Describe foundational concepts of artificial intelligence (AI) in clinical reasoning and analyze opportunities and limitations of AI-enabled tools in PT workflows.

Carol Passarelli
PT, DPT
Carol Passarelli is a PT product consultant with a background in elite sports medicine, digital health innovation, and clinical research. Carol provides clinical strategy to product development at Hinge Health, and has previous experiences leading product development at early-stage computer vision and AI ambient documentation health tech companies. She currently researches AI-guided rehab and discharge applications with Stanford Graduate School of Business, and researches with Building H on quantifying the health impact of consumer technology.
Carol is a passionate endurance runner and mountaineering enthusiast, partnering with Mammut as a PT expert and ultra-athlete. She currently practices at CU Sports Medicine & Performance Center and serves on the advisory board at Regis University. She is a contributing writer and specialist for Fast Talk Labs, SageStone, USA Track & Field, and the USA Mountain and Trail Running Teams. She holds degrees from USC, Regis University, and Stanford University.
Hali Jones
PT, DPT
Strong Enough Fitness & Physical Therapy
Hali Jones, PT, DPT is a physical therapist, business owner, and digital health innovator based in Boulder, Colorado. She is the Founder of Strong Enough Fitness & Physical Therapy, where she blends concierge and virtual care with a proactive, strength-focused approach to health and aging. She also serves as Clinical Team Lead at ViFiVE, partnering with Stanford Medicine on remote care research, guiding product development for computer-vision and digital rehab tools, and supporting clinician adoption and go-to-market strategy. Previously, she served as Clinical Director at Peak Form Medical Center and practiced at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital.
