Through this course the reader will identify the current body of literature related to the effect of chemotherapy on balance, gait, and fall risk, and understand the clinical implications and need for further research.
Learning Objectives:
- The learner will develop an understanding of the effect of chemotherapy on balance, gait, and falls among cancer survivors.
- The learner will be able to identify the relationship between chemotherapy, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, static, dynamic balance, gait and falls throughout the cancer survivorship continuum.
- The learner will be able to identify the clinical implications of findings of the scoping review.
- The learner will identify gaps in current literature and areas where further research is needed.
Dr. Steve Weschler
PT, NCS
Dr. Wechsler is a physical therapist, currently pursuing a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, MA. He is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Neurologic Physical Therapy, and is leveraging his passions for both neurologic and oncologic rehabilitation to develop a research agenda focused on the neurologic side effects of cancer and its treatments. Dr. Wechsler also serves as Secretary of the APTA Academy of Oncologic Physical Therapy.
