This course summarizes the benefits of initiating a Pelvic Floor Telehealth Program and details specific assessments and treatment options that can be utilized in this format and for this population.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Recognize and distinguish various benefits to initiating a Telehealth Pelvic Floor Program.
  2. Define the prevalence of Pelvic Floor Disorders and the lack of physical therapists with a Pelvic Floor Specialty in rural communities.
  3. Identify the various types of Pelvic Floor Rehab treatment options available to the physical therapist through telehealth.
  4. List indications and precautions for Telehealth Pelvic Floor Dysfunction examination and treatment.
  5. Implement and interpret commonly used outcome measures relevant to the Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy patient population.
  6. Apply critical thinking to perform Physical Therapy Evaluations for Pelvic Floor Disorders and select the most appropriate intervention based on the principles of evidenced-based medicine.

Deena Olson

PT, DPT

Deena is a Licensed Physical Therapist, working at the Tomah VA Medical Center for over 25 years. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse in 1994 and later received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Des Moines University in 2009. Her primary focus has been Orthopedics, with the development of a strong concentration in the past 15 years for evaluating and treating veterans with Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. She has attended several advanced level educational seminars with regards to the Pelvic Floor and other Women’s Health issues. She initiated a National VA Project, leading six other regional VA physical therapy programs to increase the awareness of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. She has spoken at the Combined Sections Meeting in Chicago and at the National Primary Care Convention in Washington D.C. She currently is part of a National VA group spearheading Telehealth Physical Therapy. Deena and her husband Dana, live in La Crosse, they enjoy spending time with their three daughters along with other outdoor activities such as gardening and hiking.
