Through participation in this OncoReads offering, learners will develop clinical knowledge of safe and effective exercise prescription for individuals with cancer throughout the continuum of care.

Learning Objectives:

  1. The learner will be able to explain the role of exercise and activity in reducing risk of cancer.
  2. The learner will be able to explain the role of exercise throughout survivorship after a cancer diagnosis.
  3. The learner will be able to identify evidence-informed exercise prescriptions for positively impacting cancer-related health outcomes.
  4. The learner will be able to translate evidence, synthesized from three manuscripts, into the clinic and community for functional application.

Kristin Campbell

BSc, PT, PhD

Dr. Campbell, Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of British Columbia, co-led the update of the exercise guidelines for cancer survivors from the American College of Sports Medicine, with Kerri Winters-Stone, PhD. Dr. Campbell holds appointments at the Centre of Excellence in Cancer Prevention and BC Cancer Cancer Control Program, is a member of the Oncology Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine. Her research focus is on the role of exercise in cancer prevention, rehabilitation and survivorship has been funded by the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute, Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research and Physiotherapy Foundation of Canada and others. Dr. Winters-Stone is an exercise scientist and the Elnora Thompson Distinguished Professor in the Oregon Health & Science University School of Nursing as well as co-director of the Knight Community Partnership Program and co-program leader of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program for the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. Dr. Winters-Stone’s research focuses on the effects of cancer treatment on musculoskeletal health and cancer recurrence risk and the ability of exercise to improve health and longevity in cancer survivors. Both Dr. Campbell and Dr. Winters-Stone are joined by Alpa V. Patel, PhD; Lynn H. Gerber, MD; Charles E. Matthews, PhD; Anne M. May, PT, PhD; Martijn Stuiver, PT, PhD; Nicole L. Stout, PT, DPT; Kathryn H. Schmitz, PhD; and G. Stephen Morris, PT, PhD in writing this Executive Summary.
